MARKHAM – Ontario can offer better jobs for young people if we sharpen our schools’ focus on skills like literacy, numeracy and science to prepare our kids for the real world, PC Leader Tim Hudak said today.

Hudak made the comments during a community discussion of his education-focused Paths to Prosperity discussion paper, Preparing Students for the Challenges of the Twenty-First Century. He was joined by PC Candidates Vic Gupta (Richmond Hill), Shan Thayaparan (Markham-Unionville) and Farid Wassef (Oak Ridges-Markham).

“It’s a belief shared around the world, and a lesson my own teacher parents taught me,” Hudak said. “Do well in school and you’re more likely to do well in life. Our focus must be on a quality education, and the knowledge our kids will need like math, science and financial literacy.”

But union bosses want to reduce teachers from professionals to workers on a 1950s-era assembly line, Hudak added. “Our teaching professionals aren’t being left with many decisions to make – not even how they spend their own time.

“That’s why we propose steps to ensure teachers who want to volunteer for after-school activities can do so free from union intimidation. It’s why we have called for the full scope of a teacher’s duties to be written into law – such as marking papers, preparing report cards, parent-teacher interviews and remedial work with students.” [மேலும் செய்திகளை வாசிக்க]

TORONTO, ON, February 03, 2013 - Children Aid Rehabilitation and Education Program (C REP) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the newly built children home in Vipulananthapuram, Mylambavelli, Batticaloa District.

In the past years, the number of deprived children has increased; this home has been built to alleviate the needs of these children and provide a safe home for these children whose extended families are unwilling or unable to care for them after their parents’ deaths. The home will accommodate 100 children, who have lost both their parents.

C REP Children Home’s mission is to support and provide a caring facility and symbolize hope to children who are in distress and is in need of a safe, nurturing and secure environment. Children residing in this home will be supported with daily living essentials, provided a healthy atmosphere with meals and ongoing, varied education and skills. The objective is to provide these children an opportunity to become healthy, happy, well-adjusted individuals who will eventually reintegrate back into their respective communities.

On February 9th 2013, we are pleased to announce the grand opening of our children home in Mylambavelli. Simultaneously, on February 10th, 2013, a ceremony will be held at Canada Kandaswamy Temple Hall located at 733 Birchmount Road to celebrate this achievement with our generous sponsors and the community.
