March 29, 2013
I would like to take extend my warmest wishes to all Canadians who are celebrating Easter.
Easter is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This religious festival comes at the end of Lent - a period of 40 days of prayer, contemplation and fasting. During Lent, Christians prepare themselves spiritually for the crucifixion of Christ on Good Friday.
This year, Christians, who follow the western calendar, celebrate Easter March 31, 2013, while Orthodox Christians observe Easter on May 5, 2013.
Easter is a time of new beginnings - a time to look to the future with a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
As you gather with your loved ones at this time of re-birth, let us celebrate the promise and hope of Easter.
